 Full course details here.

1. Kinetic Energy

This video goes through the meaning of kinetic energy and looks at the equation for calculating kinetic energy.

2. Gravitational Potential Energy

This video gives a description of what gravitational potential energy is and the equation that is used to calculate it.

3. Kinetic Energy and Gravitational Potential Energy

This video gives an example of how kinetic energy and gravitational potential can be linked and it goes through and example of calculations involving both of these energy stores.

4. Elastic Potential Energy

Elastic potential energy is an energy store associated with elastic objects such as springs. Here we look at elastic potential energy and the equation used to calculate it.

5. Specific Heat Capacity

This video explains the meaning of specific heat capacity, looks at the equations and goes through some practise questions for specific heat capacity.

6. Power

This video explains the meaning of the term 'power' in physics and gives some practise questions for using the power equation.

7. Energy Transfers in Systems

This video looks at the idea of systems in physics (a group of objects that interact) and how energy is transferred in closed systems

8. Reducing Unwanted Energy Transfers

This video looks at ways of reducing unwanted energy transfers and also goes through a thermal conductivity experiment that is mentioned on the spec.

9. Efficiency

This video goes through the meaning of the term efficiency, gives some practise on how to use the equation and has a useful summary at the end.

10. National and Global Energy Resources

This video explains the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy sources and gives advantages and disadvantages of both.

Electricity
11. Standard Circuit Diagram Symbols

This video goes through the standard circuit symbols that you need to know for your GCSE physics and helps you recognise the different ones as diagrams.

12. Electrical Charge and Current

This video goes to the meaning of the word 'charge' and introduces an equation for calculating charge.

13. Current Resistance and Potential Difference

This video goes to the relationship between current, potential difference and resistance and gives the equation that links the three.

14. Resistors

This video describes the relationship between potential difference and current for a fixed resistor, a lamp and a diode

15. Resistors II

This video describes the current versus potential difference relationship for a thermistor and a light dependent resistor.

16. Series and Parallel Circuits

This video describes the features of series and parallel circuits

17. Mains Electricity

Here we talk about the features of mains electricity and describe the structure of a three-pin plug which supplies electricity through a three-core cable

18. Mains Electricity II

This video explains the function of a fuse in a three pin plug and how it functions as a safety device.

19. Power

This video explains the meaning of electrical power and goes through two equations that you need to know and remember

20. Energy Transfers in Everyday Devices

This video describes how energy can be transferred in everyday devices and gives two equations that you should be able to use.

21. The National Grid

This video goes through the structure of the National Grid system including the role of step up and step down transformers

22. Static Electricity - Physics Only

Here we learn about the the way objects can become electrically charged and exert forces as a result of this and how charge is caused by the movement of electrons.

23. Electric Fields - Physics Only

This video goes through the meaning of electric charge and factors that affect the electric field strength around charged objects.

Particle Model of Matter
24. Density of Materials Model and State Symbols

Here we look at the meaning of density and explain what it is in terms of the particles in a substance. We also practise using the density equation.

25. Changes of State

In this video, we look at the states of matter and describe the changes in terms of energy. We also learn the key words related to change of state.

26. Internal Energy

Internal energy is a new addition to the specification for the 9-1 GCSE Physics course. Here we look at the meaning of internal energy and factors that can change it.

27. Specific Latent Heat

This video explains what specific latent heat is, the graphs for melting and boiling substances and looks at example of where the equation can be used.

28. Particle Motion in Gases

Here we explain how the motion of the molecules in a gas is related to both its temperature and its pressure and the relation between the temperature of a gas and its pressure at constant volume.

29. Pressure in Gases - Physics only

Here we learn how to calculate the change in the pressure of a gas or the volume of a gas (a fixed mass held at constant temperature) when either the pressure or volume is increased or decreased.

Atomic Structure
30. The Structure of an Atom and Isotopes

Here we recap on the structure of atoms, what isotopes are and explain why the electron arrangements of atoms may change with the absorption of electromagnetic radiation.

31. Development of the Atom Model

The video explains the idea that new experimental evidence may lead to a scientific model being changed or replaced. This is a very good example of how a scientific model has developed and changed over time.

32. Radioactive Decay and Nuclear Radiation

Here we learn the properties of alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays related to their penetration through materials, their range in air and ionising power

33. Nuclear Equations

In this video, we learn how to use the names and symbols of common nuclei and particles to write balanced equations that show single alpha (α) and beta (β) decay.

34.Half lives and the Random Nature of Radioactive Decay

Here we learn how to explain the concept of half-life and how it is related to the random nature of radioactive decay and be able to determine the half-life of a radioactive isotope from given information

35. Radioactive Contamination

Here we look at radiation and compare the hazards associated with contamination and irradiation

36. Background Radiation - Physics only

This video goes through the meaning of background radiation and what the sources are.

37. Medical Uses of Radiation - Physics only

In this video, we describe and evaluate the uses of nuclear radiations for exploration of internal organs, and for control or destruction of unwanted tissue.

38. Nuclear Fission - Physics only

In this video, we learn how to draw/interpret diagrams representing nuclear fission and how a chain reaction may occur.

39. Nuclear Fusion - Physics only

Here we look at nuclear fusion is the joining of two light nuclei to form a heavier nucleus and evaluate its potential for generating electricity.
